A man and a woman were killed after a speeding Porsche car, allegedly being driven by a 17-and-a-half-year-old boy, rammed into their motorcycle in the Yerwada area of Pune in the early hours of Sunday. The Pune police apprehended the boy, who sources in the force said is from the family of a prominent Pune realtor.
According to the Pune police, the deceased have been identified as Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24 and software engineers from Madhya Pradesh who were working in Pune. Awadhiya’s friend Akib Mulla lodged the First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the Porsche accident at the Yerwada police station.
Amitesh Kumar, Commissioner, Pune City police, said the minor accused was booked for culpable homicide as per provisions of Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). “The father of the accused and the bar which served liquor to the accused are being proceeded against under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act,” said Kumar.
The police have also invoked other sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicle Act against the boy. They said a probe was underway to confirm whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol, and his blood samples were taken for medical examination. The police added they were also finding details of the Porsche car and the reason behind the absence of a registration number plate of the vehicle.
