An Indian-origin executive died in the United States, days after he was assaulted in a brawl outside a restaurant in downtown Washington. The death of the 41-year-old Vivek Taneja comes amid increased cases of such incidents against Indian-origin students.
The incident occurred on February 2, when officers responded to an assault on the 1100 block of 15th Street Northwest outside Shoto Restaurant at around 2 am. Vivek Taneja was found on the pavement by the officers upon their arrival. He was immediately rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Taneja and an unknown man engaged in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation. Taneja was knocked to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement.
