Ishdeep Singh Randhawa filed the petition in the court demanding “perpetual injunction” and “restrain on the release” of Chamkila.
The court of Additional District Judge Shatin Goyal in Ludhiana, in an order pronounced late on Wednesday, refused to injunct the telecast of the film Amar Singh Chamkila, set for release on Netflix on Friday.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali and starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles, the film is a biopic of slain Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila and his second wife Amarjot Kaur.
Patiala-based Ishdeep Singh Randhawa filed the petition on April 8 in the court demanding “perpetual injunction” and “restrain on the release of the film”. Randhawa claimed Gurmail Kaur, the first wife of Chamkila, had sold the exclusive rights for the biopic to his late father Gurdev Singh, who was a director/producer in the Punjabi film industry.
Randhawa also claimed Gurmail Kaur had taken Rs 5 lakh from his father for giving the rights and signed a written agreement on October 12, 2012. Randhawa submitted his father passed away in November 2022, adding as his father’s legal heir, the rights to make the film on Chamkila’s life were with him and his family.
