Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Monday that Uttar Pradesh would get nine more airports in the next two years, taking the total number of airports in the state to 18.
Scindia said that the Modi government is giving a huge importance to the civil aviation sector and has developed 75 airports in the last nine years, compared to 74 airports in the first 65 years of independence. He said that the total number of airports, heliports and waterdromes in the country has reached 149
He also said that the Modi government has constructed 12 greenfield airports since 2014, while only three such airports were built in 65 years. He said that greenfield airports are those that are built from scratch on a new site.
