A 16-year-old girl was attacked with a chemical allegedly by a schoolboy in north Delhi’s Burari last week. Police said they had apprehended the suspect, who “expressed a general dislike for girls” and claimed to have chosen the victim at random.
The survivor told police that the incident took place when she had gone to pick up her cousin from school at 1 pm on January 24.
As the girl arrived at Shastri Park Extension, a boy threw a chemical at her that burned her eyes, neck and nose. The victim was taken to a hospital, where she received treatment and was eventually discharged,” a police officer said. Investigators have found no evidence of personal animosity that could have motivated the attack on the girl.
After analysing CCTV footage, police created a timeline of the suspect’s movements. After a scan of the footage, the team spotted a boy running away from the crime scene. This occurred about a kilometre from the camera. They secured this crucial footage, where his attire matched the description given by the victim. His face was not visible though,” the officer said.
The suspect was dressed in blue trousers, a white handkerchief mask, a jacket, a backpack and sports shoes.
