Jasprit Bumrah’s mesmerising afternoon spell on the second day of the Vizag Test, where the pace spearhead bagged a six-for saw former India skipper Sourav Ganguly advocating for good wickets rather than rank turners in India.
As Bumrah crossed the 150 wickets mark in the longest format and also registered his third best Test figures against England, Ganguly pointed out that the Indian pace attack is capable of getting 20 wickets on any surface with the assistance of the spinners.
In his six-wicket haul, Bumrah homed in on Ollie Pope’s stumps with a laser-guided yorker to dismiss the England batter for 23 off 55 balls, earning it a separate fan base altogether.
It wasn’t entirely surprising then to see Ganguly, a lifelong supporter of pace bowling and sporting tracks, airing his views in favour of decks that keeps bowlers of all genres in the game, rather than just spinners.
